Shure SE112 (2014) vs Jaybird Bluebuds X (2012)

Analysis:

The Shure SE112 (2014) makes for a good, if unremarkable, Earphone for people with a $45 budget.

The Jaybird BlueBuds X (2012), however, is merely mediocre at its $78 asking price, when compared to similarly priced products, and won't satisfy the needs of most people.

In either case, we suggest that you first take a look at some other options at the $45 and $100 price points before committing to one of these - it's likely that you'll be able to find some better alternatives.

If you're still interested in learning more about the Shure SE112 (2014) and Jaybird BlueBuds X (2012), however, we wrote a summary of what we could find about them:

The Shure SE112 (2014) was loved by reviewers at SoundGuys, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "Best earbuds under $50 of 2020" roundup where it was named its "Best Sound", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

Moving on to the Jaybird BlueBuds X (2012): it was unable to reach the very top of any roundups from sources that conduct reliable and unbiased testing. Nonetheless, it still managed to impress reviewers from a number of such sites, like PCmag, PhoneArena, TrustedReviews, CNET, Head-fi, Gear Patrol, and Android Authority, enough for them to include them on those lists.

To get a better idea of how they fare when compared directly to each other, we analyzed review scores of sources that tested both. Head-fi, for example, preferred the Shure SE112 (2014), while TrustedReviews rated both of them the same.

We also took a look at which sources had the best things to say about them. We learned that the Shure SE112 (2014) got reviewed the highest by AVForums - it gave it a rating of 9, while the Jaybird BlueBuds X (2012) most impressed reviewers at PCmag, which gave it a score of 8.

Lastly, we averaged out all of their review ratings and observed that the Shure SE112 (2014), with its 7.8 average, performed considerably better than most Earphones - the mean score for the product category being 7.3 out of 10 - while the Jaybird BlueBuds X (2012) managed an average of 6.8.

There's one caveat here - it might not be entirely justifiable to do a direct Shure SE112 (2014) vs. Jaybird BlueBuds X (2012) review average comparison since they aren't priced the same and more expensive products tend to get higher review scores from some sources.
