Shure SE112 (2014) vs Plantronics BackBeat FIT 300 (2017)

Analysis:

The Shure SE112 (2014) is a relatively good Canal Earphone for people that are willing to spend around $45. The Plantronics BackBeat FIT 300 (2017), by contrast, is quite unremarkable and doesn't stand out in any meaningful way from other products at this price point.

In both cases, however, we recommend that you take look at some other options at the $45 and $30 budget ranges; in all likelihood you'll find some better alternatives.

If you're still interested in learning more about the Shure SE112 (2014) and Plantronics BackBeat FIT 300 (2017), however, we wrote a summary of what we know about them:

The Shure SE112 (2014) was loved by reviewers at SoundGuys, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "Best earbuds under $50 of 2020" roundup where it was named its "Best Sound", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

As for the Plantronics BackBeat FIT 300 (2017) - CNET, a source that conducts reliable hands-on testing, has featured it in its Plantronics BackBeat Fit 300 Series review roundup. However, it didn't make it to any of the top spots.

We couldn't find any sources that tested both of these Canal Earphones, so we only analyzed how they performed in reviews from different sites.

We first examined which sources rated each of these best and found that the Shure SE112 (2014) got its highest, 9, rating from AVForums, while the Plantronics BackBeat FIT 300 (2017) earned its best, 8.8, score from Runnerclick.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Canal Earphones on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Canal Earphones being 7.4 out of 10, whereas the Shure SE112 (2014) and Plantronics BackBeat FIT 300 (2017) managed averages of 7.8 and 8.0 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Shure SE112 (2014) vs. Plantronics BackBeat FIT 300 (2017) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
