Shure SE112 (2014) vs Sony WF-SP700N

Analysis:

The Shure SE112 (2014) makes for a good, if unremarkable, Earphone for people with a $45 budget.

The Sony WF-SP700N, however, is merely mediocre at its $89 asking price, when compared to similarly priced products, and won't satisfy the needs of most people.

In either case, we suggest that you first take a look at some other options at the $45 and $90 price points before committing to one of these - it's likely that you'll be able to find some better alternatives.

If you're still interested in learning more about the Shure SE112 (2014) and Sony WF-SP700N, however, we wrote a summary of what we could find about them:

The Shure SE112 (2014) was loved by reviewers at SoundGuys, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "Best earbuds under $50 of 2020" roundup where it was named its "Best Sound", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

Moving on to the Sony WF-SP700N: it was unable to reach the very top of any roundups from sources that conduct reliable and unbiased testing. Nonetheless, it still managed to impress reviewers from a number of such sites, like Head-fi, Rtings, CNET, SoundGuys, The Verge, Techradar, PCmag, and Tom's Guide, enough for them to include them on those lists.

Out of the sources that tested and rated both of these Earphones, Digitaltrends and SoundGuys preferred the Shure SE112 (2014), whereas reviewers at Head-fi liked the Sony WF-SP700N better. Techradar gave them identical review scores.

We also took a look at which sources liked these products best - the highest Shure SE112 (2014) rating came from AVForums, whereas the Sony WF-SP700N most impressed reviewers at Head-fi; they earned scores of 9 and 8, respectively.

Lastly, we averaged out all of their review ratings and observed that the Shure SE112 (2014), with its 7.8 average, performed considerably better than most Earphones - the mean score for the product category being 7.3 out of 10 - while the Sony WF-SP700N managed an average of 6.7.

There's one caveat here - it might not be entirely justifiable to do a direct Shure SE112 (2014) vs. Sony WF-SP700N review average comparison since they aren't priced the same and more expensive products tend to get higher review scores from some sources.
