Bowers & Wilkins PX7 (2020) vs Shure SRH1840 (2011)

Analysis:

The Bowers & Wilkins PX7 (2020) is a great Over-Ear Headphone for its $399 asking price.

The Shure SRH1840 (2011), however, is merely passable at its $499 price point. If you're considering buying a Over-Ear Headphone in the $520 range, you might want to check out some of its competitors.

The Bowers & Wilkins PX7 (2020) was loved by reviewers at PCmag, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "The Best Noise-Cancelling Headphones for 2020" roundup where it was named its "Best for Style Lovers", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

As for the Shure SRH1840 (2011), it wasn't able to earn a top spot in any roundups from trusted sources that conduct their own hands-on testing. Nevertheless, it managed to impress reviewers at What Hi-Fi?, Head-fi, CNET, and Wirecutter (NYTimes) enough to make it onto their respective shortlists.

We analyzed all of the review data that we could find on these two Over-Ear Headphones. First, we examined sources that tested and scored both of these products - Head-fi favored the Shure SRH1840 (2011) over the Bowers & Wilkins PX7 (2020), whereas reviewers at What Hi-Fi? haven't shown a preference for either.

Then we took a look at which sources liked them the most - we found that the Bowers & Wilkins PX7 (2020) was best received by What Hi-Fi? - it gave it a score of 10, whereas the Shure SRH1840 (2011) got its highest score of 10 from reviewers at What Hi-Fi?.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Over-Ear Headphones on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Over-Ear Headphones being 7.5 out of 10, whereas the Bowers & Wilkins PX7 (2020) and Shure SRH1840 (2011) managed averages of 8.7 and 8.9 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Bowers & Wilkins PX7 (2020) vs. Shure SRH1840 (2011) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
