Monoprice Monolith M565 (2018) vs Shure SRH1840 (2011)

Analysis:

The Monoprice Monolith M565C (2018) is a great Over-Ear Headphone for its $199 asking price.

The Shure SRH1840 (2011), however, while a reasonable product for $499, doesn't stack up against its competitors quite as well. If you're considering Over-Ear Headphones in the $550 range, you might want to check out some better options.

The Monoprice Monolith M565C (2018) was loved by reviewers at Wirecutter (NYTimes), a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "The Best Everyday Audiophile Headphones" roundup where it was named its "Top Pick", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

As for the Shure SRH1840 (2011), it wasn't able to earn a top spot in any roundups from trusted sources that conduct their own hands-on testing. Nevertheless, it managed to impress reviewers at Head-fi, CNET, and Wirecutter (NYTimes) enough to make it onto their respective shortlists.

When we thoroughly analyzed their review scores, we learned that all of the sources that tested both Over-Ear Headphones, including Head-fi, preferred the Monoprice Monolith M565C (2018) over the Shure SRH1840 (2011).

We also took a look at which sources they managed to impress the most. The Monoprice Monolith M565C (2018) was liked best by Head-fi, which gave it a score of 10, while the Shure SRH1840 (2011) got its highest, 10, score from What Hi-Fi?.

Lastly, in order to better compare them to the rest of their competition, we averaged out their review scores. The Shure SRH1840 (2011) managed to get 8.9 out of 10 - considerably better than the 7.5 review average of Over-Ear Headphones in general - whereas the Monoprice Monolith M565C (2018) earned 10.0 points.

It should be said that doing a direct Monoprice Monolith M565C (2018) vs. Shure SRH1840 (2011) comparison might not be entirely fair due to the difference in their prices - some sources don't put much weight on value for money and thus tend to give better review scores to more expensive products.
