Skullcandy Grind Wireless (2016) vs Sennheiser PXC 550 (2016)

Analysis:

The Skullcandy Grind Wireless (2016) is a great Closed-Back Headphone for its $55 asking price.

The Sennheiser PXC 550 (2016), however, while a reasonable product for $219, doesn't stack up against its competitors quite as well. If you're considering Closed-Back Headphones in the $210 range, you might want to check out some better options.

The Skullcandy Grind Wireless (2016) was loved by reviewers at Rtings, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "The 6 Best On-Ear Headphones - Fall 2020" roundup where it was named its "Best Budget On-Ear Headphones", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

It did great in its "Noise Cancelling Headphone review" roundup - in fact, it earned its "Top Pick" title, which, on its own, indicates a certain level of quality.

We analyzed all of the review data that we could find on these two Closed-Back Headphones. First, we examined sources that tested and scored both of these products - Techradar, CNET, and Rtings favored the Sennheiser PXC 550 (2016) over the Skullcandy Grind Wireless (2016), whereas reviewers at PCmag and Expert Reviews haven't shown a preference for either.

Then we took a look at which sources liked them the most - we found that the Skullcandy Grind Wireless (2016) was best received by SoundGuys - it gave it a score of 8.2, whereas the Sennheiser PXC 550 (2016) got its highest score of 10 from reviewers at HomeTheaterReview.com.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Closed-Back Headphones on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Closed-Back Headphones being 7.4 out of 10, whereas the Skullcandy Grind Wireless (2016) and Sennheiser PXC 550 (2016) managed averages of 7.8 and 8.6 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Skullcandy Grind Wireless (2016) vs. Sennheiser PXC 550 (2016) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
