Sony α7R Mirrorless Cameras (2019) vs Olympus OM-D E-M10 Cameras (2015)

Analysis:

The Sony α7R IV (2019) is a great Mirrorless Camera for its $3198 asking price.

The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II (2015), however, while a reasonable product for $498, doesn't stack up against its competitors quite as well. If you're considering Mirrorless Cameras in the $500 range, you might want to check out some better options.

The Sony α7R IV (2019) was loved by reviewers at PCmag, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "The Best Digital Cameras for 2020" roundup where it was named its "Best for 10fps Capture at 60MP", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

As for the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II (2015) analysis - it impressed reviewers at The Verge, a source that's known for its objective testing and well-thought-out methodology - it performed great in its "The best mirrorless camera you can buy for $1,000" roundup and earned the "Ranked 2 out of 8" title.

To get a better idea of how they fare when compared directly to each other, we analyzed review scores of sources that tested both. PCmag and DXOMARK, for example, preferred the Sony α7R IV (2019), while Techradar and Digital Camera World rated both of them the same.

We also took a look at which sources had the best things to say about them. We learned that the Sony α7R IV (2019) got reviewed the highest by PCmag - it gave it a rating of 10, while the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II (2015) most impressed reviewers at Photography Blog, which gave it a score of 10.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Mirrorless Cameras on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Mirrorless Cameras being 7.9 out of 10, whereas the Sony α7R IV (2019) and Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II (2015) managed averages of 9.2 and 8.5 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Sony α7R IV (2019) vs. Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II (2015) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
