Olympus OM-D E-M5 Cameras (2015) vs Sony α7S Mirrorless Cameras (2015)

Analysis:

The Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II (2015) was loved by reviewers at Tom's Guide, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "Best mirrorless cameras in 2020" roundup where it was named its "Weatherproof seals make this a good mirrorless camera for the outdoors.", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

Moving on to the Sony α7S II (2015): it was unable to reach the very top of any roundups from sources that conduct reliable and unbiased testing. Nonetheless, it still managed to impress reviewers from a number of such sites, like Photography Blog, The Phoblographer, Techradar, DXOMARK, TrustedReviews, PCmag, Digital Camera World, Digital Photography Review, and camerajabber.com, enough for them to include them on those lists.

Out of the sources that tested and rated both of these Mirrorless Cameras, Digitaltrends and TrustedReviews preferred the Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II (2015), whereas reviewers at Techradar and DXOMARK liked the Sony α7S II (2015) better. The Phoblographer, Photography Blog, and PCmag gave them identical review scores.

We also took a look at which sources liked these products best - the highest Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II (2015) rating came from The Phoblographer, whereas the Sony α7S II (2015) most impressed reviewers at Photography Blog; they earned scores of 10 and 10, respectively.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Mirrorless Cameras on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Mirrorless Cameras being 7.9 out of 10, whereas the Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II (2015) and Sony α7S II (2015) managed averages of 8.9 and 8.8 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II (2015) vs. Sony α7S II (2015) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
