Sony 900 series (2018) vs Sony 850 series (2018)
The Sony X900 85" (2018) was loved by reviewers at CNET, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "Your Super Bowl party deserves one of these 70- or 75-inch TVs" roundup where it was named its "Alternate (brand) 75-inch (and 85-inch!) pick", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.
As for the Sony X850 55" (2018), it wasn't able to earn a top spot in any roundups from trusted sources that conduct their own hands-on testing. Nevertheless, it managed to impress reviewers at Rtings, Techradar, and TrustedReviews enough to make it onto their respective shortlists.
When we thoroughly analyzed their review scores, we learned that all of the sources that tested both TVs, including Techradar, TrustedReviews, and Rtings, preferred the Sony X900 85" (2018) over the Sony X850 55" (2018).
We also took a look at which sources they managed to impress the most. The Sony X900 85" (2018) was liked best by What Hi-Fi?, which gave it a score of 10, while the Sony X850 55" (2018) got its highest, 7.2, score from Lifewire.
Lastly, in order to better compare them to their competition, we averaged out their review scores and found that the Sony X900 85" (2018) got received considerably better than the majority of other TVs - it earned an average of 8.2 out of 10 points, compared to the 7.7 overall rating of other TVs - while the Sony X850 55" (2018) performed worse than most of its competitors, with its average review score of 6.5.
It's worth keeping in mind, however, that a direct Sony X900 85" (2018) vs. Sony X850 55" (2018) comparison might not be realistic since they're priced differently and some sources have a tendency to review more expensive products better than cheaper ones.
