Sony FDR Action Cameras (2016) vs GoPro Fusion (2017)
The Sony FDR-X3000 makes for a good, if unremarkable, Action Camera for people with a $420 budget.
The GoPro Fusion (2017), however, is merely mediocre at its $224 asking price, when compared to similarly priced products, and won't satisfy the needs of most people.
In either case, we suggest that you first take a look at some other options at the $420 and $290 price points before committing to one of these - it's likely that you'll be able to find some better alternatives.
If you're still interested in learning more about the Sony FDR-X3000 and GoPro Fusion (2017), however, we wrote a summary of what we could find about them:
The Sony FDR-X3000 was loved by reviewers at PCmag, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "The Best Action Cameras and Camcorders for 2021" roundup where it was named its "Best for Optical Video Stabilization", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.
Moving on to the GoPro Fusion (2017): it was unable to reach the very top of any roundups from sources that conduct reliable and unbiased testing. Nonetheless, it still managed to impress reviewers from a number of such sites, like Digital Photography Review, PCmag, Techradar, TrustedReviews, camerajabber.com, TechSpot, Threesixtycameras.com, Digital Camera World, and Gear Patrol, enough for them to include them on those lists.
Out of the sources that tested and rated both of these Action Cameras, Gadget Review preferred the Sony FDR-X3000, whereas reviewers at PCmag and Techradar liked the GoPro Fusion (2017) better. TrustedReviews gave them identical review scores.
We also took a look at which sources liked these products best - the highest Sony FDR-X3000 rating came from Gadget Review, whereas the GoPro Fusion (2017) most impressed reviewers at Digital Photography Review; they earned scores of 9.2 and 9, respectively.
Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Action Cameras on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Action Cameras being 7.4 out of 10, whereas the Sony FDR-X3000 and GoPro Fusion (2017) managed averages of 8.0 and 7.9 points, respectively.
Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Sony FDR-X3000 vs. GoPro Fusion (2017) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
