The Sony WH-1000XM3 (2018) makes for an outstanding Closed-Back Headphone at its $220 price point. The Monoprice Monolith M565, however, while a good product overall, doesn't really manage to stand out from its competition.
The Sony WH-1000XM3 (2018) has done great in quite a few roundups from some of the most highly trusted sources available, such as Tom's Guide, SoundGuys, CNET, and Laptop Mag, which perform high-quality in-depth testing. It got awarded the "Best Sony headphones overall" title by Tom's Guide, "Best ANC" by SoundGuys, and "Best of previous generation" by CNET in their respective roundups. Earning that much praise from such respected sources is undoubtedly an impressive accomplishment.
As for the Monoprice Monolith M565, it was really well-received by reviewers at SoundGuys, a reliable source that's known for conducting its own, high-quality, in-depth testing. It performed great in its "Best headphones under $200" roundup and was named its "Best Sound", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.
Sources that tested and scored both products, like SoundGuys, haven't shown a preference for either in their reviews.
We also examined the available data to learn which sources liked these two Closed-Back Headphones best and found that the Sony WH-1000XM3 (2018) managed to get its highest, 10, review score from Tech Advisor, whereas the Monoprice Monolith M565 got its best rating from SoundGuys - 9.
