The Sony WH-1000XM3 (2018) makes for an outstanding Closed-Back Headphone at $229. The Plantronics Backbeat Fit 6100, however, while overall a good product for its asking price, doesn't quite manage to stand out from its competition - there are better Closed-Back Headphones that can be found for around $120 available here.

The Sony WH-1000XM3 (2018) has done great in quite a few roundups from some of the most highly trusted sources available, such as Tom's Guide, CNET, Laptop Mag, and SoundGuys, which perform high-quality in-depth testing. It got awarded the "Best Sony headphones overall" title by Tom's Guide, "Best of previous generation" by CNET, and "Excellent sound paired with great noise cancelling" by Laptop Mag in their respective roundups. Earning that much praise from such respected sources is undoubtedly an impressive accomplishment.

Returning to the Plantronics Backbeat Fit 6100, it managed to impress reviewers from two sources that are considered to be some of the most highly trusted on the internet, thanks to their in-depth hands-on testing - CNET and SoundGuys. It performed great in their respective Closed-Back Headphone roundups - it was named "Best for sports" by CNET and "Best All-around" by SoundGuys. That's quite an endorsement, especially coming from such high-quality sources.

When we thoroughly analyzed their review scores, we learned that all of the sources that tested both Closed-Back Headphones, including Tech Advisor, PCmag, and SoundGuys, preferred the Sony WH-1000XM3 (2018) over the Plantronics Backbeat Fit 6100.

We also took a look at which sources they managed to impress the most. The Sony WH-1000XM3 (2018) was liked best by Expert Reviews, which gave it a score of 10, while the Plantronics Backbeat Fit 6100 got its highest, 9, score from Tech Advisor.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Closed-Back Headphones on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Closed-Back Headphones being 7.4 out of 10, whereas the Sony WH-1000XM3 (2018) and Plantronics Backbeat Fit 6100 managed averages of 9.0 and 8.0 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Sony WH-1000XM3 (2018) vs. Plantronics Backbeat Fit 6100 comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
