Sony Xperia (2019) vs Samsung Galaxy S7 (2016)

Analysis:

The Sony Xperia 5 (2019) and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (2016) make for good, if unremarkable, Smartphones at their respective budgets.

With that said, while they both should serve reasonably well, you might want to look into other options at the $860 and $270 price points - it's likely that there are some better alternatives available.

If you want to learn more about the Sony Xperia 5 (2019) and the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (2016), however, we prepared a summary of the information that we have:

The Sony Xperia 5 (2019) was loved by reviewers at PCmag, a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "The Best Phones at IFA 2019" roundup where it was named its "Ranked 1 out of 2", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.

Moving on to the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (2016): it was unable to reach the very top of any roundups from sources that conduct reliable and unbiased testing. Nonetheless, it still managed to impress reviewers from a number of such sites, like Expert Reviews, Techradar, TechSpot, GSMArena, Android Authority, CNET, PhoneArena, PCmag, Tom's Guide, TrustedReviews, and DXOMARK, enough for them to include them on those lists.

We conducted an analysis of all of the review data that we could find on these two products. First, we focused on sources that tested and rated both of them, like Expert Reviews, Pocket-lint, Techradar, GSMArena, Android Authority, PhoneArena, PCmag, Tom's Guide, and TrustedReviews, and learned that they all showed a preference for the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (2016).

Then we took a look at the highest review scores that these two Smartphones received. We found that the Sony Xperia 5 (2019) managed to earn a rating of 9 from camerajabber.com, whereas the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (2016) got its highest, 10, score from reviewers at Expert Reviews.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Smartphones on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Smartphones being 7.5 out of 10, whereas the Sony Xperia 5 (2019) and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (2016) managed averages of 7.6 and 9.0 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Sony Xperia 5 (2019) vs. Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (2016) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
