TCL 3 series (2019) vs Sony A9 Series OLED TVs (2019)
The TCL S3 40" 2019 is a great TV for its $219 asking price.
The Sony A9 Series 65" (2019), however, while a reasonable product for $2618, doesn't stack up against its competitors quite as well. If you're considering TVs in the $2,600 range, you might want to check out some better options.
Two highly trusted sources that perform well-thought-out in-depth testing consider the TCL S3 40" 2019 to be a great product - it earned the "Best 1080p TV" title from Rtings and "Best budget smart TV" from CNET in their respective TV roundups, which is a good indication of it being a notable product.
Moving on to the Sony A9 Series 65" (2019): it was unable to reach the very top of any roundups from sources that conduct reliable and unbiased testing. Nonetheless, it still managed to impress reviewers from a number of such sites, like What Hi-Fi?, Techradar, Expert Reviews, Rtings, Tech Advisor, Tom's Guide, TrustedReviews, PCmag, soundandvision.com, Android Authority, and Wirecutter (NYTimes), enough for them to include them on those lists.
We conducted an analysis of all of the review data that we could find on these two products. First, we focused on sources that tested and rated both of them, like Gadget Review and Rtings, and learned that they all showed a preference for the Sony A9 Series 65" (2019).
Then we took a look at the highest review scores that these two TVs received. We found that the TCL S3 40" 2019 managed to earn a rating of 9.1 from Gadget Review, whereas the Sony A9 Series 65" (2019) got its highest, 10, score from reviewers at Techradar.
Lastly, in order to better compare them to the rest of their competition, we averaged out their review scores. The Sony A9 Series 65" (2019) managed to get 9.0 out of 10 - considerably better than the 7.7 review average of TVs in general - whereas the TCL S3 40" 2019 earned 7.3 points.
It should be said that doing a direct TCL S3 40" 2019 vs. Sony A9 Series 65" (2019) comparison might not be entirely fair due to the difference in their prices - some sources don't put much weight on value for money and thus tend to give better review scores to more expensive products.
