TCL 5 series (2018) vs LG B9 OLED
The TCL S5 43" has managed to impress reviewers from some of the most highly trusted sources on the internet, including Wirecutter and Tom's Guide. It performed great in their in-depth hands-on roundups - it was awarded the "Ranked 2 out of 2" title by Wirecutter and "Ranked 2 out of 5" by Tom's Guide in their respective TV roundups. That's high praise, especially when coming from such high-quality sources.
Moving on to the LG B9 OLED 55": it was unable to reach the very top of any roundups from sources that conduct reliable and unbiased testing. Nonetheless, it still managed to impress reviewers from a number of such sites, like What Hi-Fi?, HomeTheaterReview.com, TrustedReviews, Rtings, CNET, and AVForums, enough for them to include them on those lists.
We conducted an analysis of all of the review data that we could find on these two products. First, we focused on sources that tested and rated both of them, like Rtings and CNET, and learned that they all showed a preference for the LG B9 OLED 55".
Then we took a look at the highest review scores that these two TVs received. We found that the TCL S5 43" managed to earn a rating of 9.4 from MonitorNerds, whereas the LG B9 OLED 55" got its highest, 10, score from reviewers at What Hi-Fi?.
Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other TVs on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by TVs being 7.7 out of 10, whereas the TCL S5 43" and LG B9 OLED 55" managed averages of 7.8 and 8.9 points, respectively.
Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct TCL S5 43" vs. LG B9 OLED 55" comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
