See Top Ranked Pen Computers

Apple iPad Pro (2020) vs Wacom Intuos Pro (2017)

Analysis:

The Apple iPad Pro 12.9 (2020) is an exemplary product and one of the very best Pen Computers at the $920 budget.

The Wacom Intuos Pro S (2017), however, doesn't seem to have enough data available for us to be able to draw any meaningful conclusions. If you're considering Pen Computers in the $310 range, you might want to check out some other options.

The Apple iPad Pro 12.9 (2020) impressed reviewers from many highly trusted sources, including Laptop Mag, Tom's Guide, CNET, PCmag, and Notebookcheck.net. It performed great in their Pen Computer roundups - it was named "The best tablet for power users" by Laptop Mag, "The best tablet for power users" by Tom's Guide, and "The best tablet for creatives" by CNET. That's high praise from sources that conduct in-depth hands-on testing.

As for the Wacom Intuos Pro S (2017), it was really well-received by reviewers at Wirecutter (NYTimes), a reliable source that's known for conducting its own, high-quality, in-depth testing. It performed great in its "The Best Drawing Tablets for Beginners" roundup and was named its "Upgrade pick", which, on its own, makes it a product that warrants a closer look.

We conducted an analysis of all of the review data that we could find on these two products. First, we focused on sources that tested and rated both of them, like PCmag, and learned that they all showed a preference for the Wacom Intuos Pro S (2017).

Then we took a look at the highest review scores that these two Pen Computers received. We found that the Apple iPad Pro 12.9 (2020) managed to earn a rating of 9 from Tech Advisor, whereas the Wacom Intuos Pro S (2017) got its highest, 8, score from reviewers at PCmag.

Lastly, we averaged out all of the reviews scores that we could find on these two products and compared them to other Pen Computers on the market. We learned that both of them performed far better than most of their competitors - the overall review average earned by Pen Computers being 7.7 out of 10, whereas the Apple iPad Pro 12.9 (2020) and Wacom Intuos Pro S (2017) managed averages of 8.5 and 8.0 points, respectively.

Due to the difference in their prices, however, it's important to keep in mind that a direct Apple iPad Pro 12.9 (2020) vs. Wacom Intuos Pro S (2017) comparison might not be entirely fair - some sources don't take value for money into account when assigning their scores and therefore have a tendency to rate more premium products better.
