Yamaha RX-V485 AV receiver (2018) vs Denon AVR-X8500H receiver (2018)
Denon AVR-X8500H receiver
The Yamaha RX-V485 receiver is a great AV Receiver for its $329 asking price.
The Denon AVR-X8500H receiver, however, while a reasonable product for $3999, doesn't stack up against its competitors quite as well. If you're considering AV Receivers in the $4,000 range, you might want to check out some better options.
The Yamaha RX-V485 receiver was loved by reviewers at Wirecutter (NYTimes), a highly trusted source that performs reliable in-depth testing. It did great in its "The Best AV Receivers for Most People" roundup where it was named its "Top Pick", which, in itself, makes it a product worth considering.
Taking a look at the Denon AVR-X8500H receiver, it got featured in roundups from two reliable sources that conduct their own testing - AVForums and HomeTheaterReview.com - but it fell short of earning a top spot in either.
We couldn't find any sources that tested both of these AV Receivers, so we only analyzed how they performed in reviews from different sites.
We first examined which sources rated each of these best and found that the Yamaha RX-V485 receiver got its highest, 8, rating from Techradar, while the Denon AVR-X8500H receiver earned its best, 10, score from Audioholics.
Lastly, in order to better compare them to the rest of their competition, we averaged out their review scores. The Denon AVR-X8500H receiver managed to get 9.3 out of 10 - considerably better than the 8.2 review average of AV Receivers in general - whereas the Yamaha RX-V485 receiver earned 8.0 points.
It should be said that doing a direct Yamaha RX-V485 receiver vs. Denon AVR-X8500H receiver comparison might not be entirely fair due to the difference in their prices - some sources don't put much weight on value for money and thus tend to give better review scores to more expensive products.
