Pros
Pro It's easy to read
Verdana is designed for good readability on screens, which translates to programming, especially in languages with a lot of words, like Java. Its symbols are distinct but not very significant; that makes it not optimal for languages using symbols a lot, like Haskell.

Cons
Con Its quotation marks are wrong
Verdana has different shapes for left English quotation marks (“, ‘), contrary to the descriptions by Unicode. It causes that using the symbols in a different way, like in German quotations, looks wrong. Verdana Pro, its remake, has this fixed; it has normal-looking quotation marks.
