While the game is well-known for mapping single-province countries to their historical positions, the larger countries are surpisingly permissive of how you play and forgiving of mistakes. These include countries such as the Ottoman Empire (arguably the easiest for development and plentiful land warfare), France (for a mix of trade with some warfare) and Portugal (for a relaxed colonial game).
