Easy to learn for a software developer
It uses an easy to learn scripting language very similar to common programming language. One can use variables, constants and subroutines.

Not rather suited for exact stuff
But it's rather designed and suitable for 'non-exact' objects like modelling figures.

Sojan Janso's Experience
I use blender all the time along with cura 3d and my tevo tarantula printer, and It works beautifully. By enabling some already packaged add ons like "measure it" and the 3d printing add on, you can have some pretty good functionality. I have been able to design many complex functional models with only a few micrometers accuracy; plenty for most printing applications. And if you want, you can push it even further. Of course, the learning curve is pretty steep.
