The thermal carafe is not transparent and has no viewing window, making it difficult to visually determine how much coffee is left. Switching to a glass (or non-thermal) carafe isn't ideal because of the hot plate — it shuts off after the coffee is done brewing, so the coffee won't stay warm in non-thermal carafes. See More
