Manus VR Review

The battery life is touted as lasting 8 hours, which is plenty long enough for an all day gaming session.

There are free and open-source SDK's available for Windows, Linux, OS X, Android and iOS 9 as well as plugins available for the Unity and Unreal engines. This way there is a wide selection of support for gaming, no matter the platform or engine prefered. Also, being open-source ensures that anyone is able to join in without worry of any fees or a closed community.

Three different sensors are used (gyroscopes, accelerometers and magnetometers) in order to ascertain the movement and positioning of each hand.

The gloves can be connected over Bluetooth allowing for more freedom of movement than a tethered solution.

This includes support for Vive (Steam VR), OSVR as well as Samsung Gear. So no matter the VR ones chooses to go with, functionality for Manus already exists.

The electronics for the device are contained within the glove but are removable meaning that the gloves themselves can be washed. This is great, as a glove will eventually become dirty from sweat as well as normal wear and tear. Hand washing is recommended though, as they are built from material that could be considered delicate or is prone to shrinking.

Vibrating actuators on the back of the glove provides tactile feedback from the game, making for a more immersive experience. This can be used by games in a number of ways, one being a way of force feedback in order to know something important is happening.

Manus VR provides a demo game for each of its available platforms. This way users that do receive their dev kit device can test to see what the glove is capable of.

There are included wrist mounts for the Vive controllers, making for good compatibility for those that own that device.
