Ranked in these QuestionsQuestion Ranking
Pros
Pro Decent general performance
Firestrike tests are used to measure the overall performance of a GPU. For these tests a setup with an i7-4790K CPU was used.
The AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition scored 17,152 in the Fire Strike test, 9,449 in the Fire Strike Extreme test and 5,216 in the Fire Strike Ultra test. For comparison, Geforce GTX Titan X scored 17,396, 7,989 and 3,862 accordingly.
The performance of the Vega FE card is decent. The soon to be released Vega consumer cards are very likely to outperform this Frontier Edition version in these tests.
Pro Decent game performance
At 4K resolution, the Vega FE runs Dirt Rally at 57 FPS, Fallout 4 at 42 FPS, Hitman at 50 FPS and The Witcher 3 at around 30 FPS.
The in-game performance is similar to GTX 1080 cards. Though, it's probably going to be improved by the consumer versions of this Vega card. They will be more optimized for gaming.
Pro Liquid cooled version available
For $1450 you can get the same card with liquid cooling system - giving you lower temperatures.
Cons
Con Not for gaming
The card is mostly meant for freelance content creators. If you're developing for example video games and want to test them on the same PC, while keeping the cost of the setup low, this card is for you. For very large and costly projects, where the price of the GPU doesn't make much of a difference, you should look at AMD FirePro cards or similar.
Though the AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition does come with gaming drivers, a regular gamer can run into a lot of issues. Unless you're a "digital pioneer", it's recommended to wait for the Vega RX series to be released later in 2017, since they are much better optimized for games.
