Pros
Pro Big regional Pokédex and new Pokémon added
The regional Pokédex has about one hundred more Pokémon than Sun and Moon. This makes it the bigger and most complete regional Pokédex to date with 403 species, which makes sense considering Alola is the region with most biodiversity in the Pokémon world.
There are also four more Ultra Beasts (a new kind of Pokémon introduced in Sun and Moon that come from a parallel universe called Ultra Space): Stakataka (UB Assembly), Poipole (UB Adhessive), Naganadel (Poipole's evolution), and Blacephalon (UB Burst), along with a new event Pokémon called Zeraora.
Finally, Necrozma has three new forms: Dusk Mane Necrozma, Dawn Wings Necrozma, and Ultra Necrozma.
Pro Great minigames
There are several returning minigames to Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon. All the PokéPelago facilities, where you can hatch eggs, raise your Pokémon's happiness, increase their Effort Values (EV), grow berries and look for rare items, are back and you can do exactly the same. Taking photographies emulating the original Pokémon Snap for Nintendo 64 is back too, and this is one of the hardest minigames because many Pokémon never stop jumping or flying around so getting a good picture of them takes a lot of time. It is also a very long to finish minigame, since you get about 5000-10000 points for a good photo, and it takes 1500000 points to fully upgrade the camera.
The new minigames added in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are both fantastic! In one of them, you ride a legendary Pokémon through wormholes. The farther you go, the more chances you have of getting a shiny or legendary Pokémon! In the other minigame, you can surf the waves of Alola riding a Mantine, a water-type Pokémon that resembles a big manta ray.
Riding an amazing legendary pokémon through hundreds or thousands of light-years surely adds another epic touch to the game. Surfing the waves on Mantine, on the other hand, helps creating the immersion in the tropical region of Alola. Both minigames are well designed and put into the game to create a fun and ejoyable experience for the player while still keeping them interesting and challenging.
Pro New exciting story, one of the best in the series
Although still taking place in Alola, the region of the original Sun & Moon games, the story is completely new and there is a mistery to solve and a world to save now! The story slowly unfolds until you get to a certain point where everything suddenly starts making sense and the adrenaline starts rushing. The "peak moment" of this new story consists of many hours of thrilling events and revelations, one after another.
All in all, considering its duration, depth, and the more adult approach (similar to the approach Game Freak took on Pokémon Black and White and Black 2 and White 2), this is one of the best Pokémon stories so far.
Cons
Con Not many differences in the world map
There are some new areas in the world map compared to Sun and Moon, but not many of them, and most of the new areas are the beaches needed for the surfing minigame. It feels like Game Freak could have done a better job creating this new Alola experience like they did with the remakes of Red, Blue, and Green, and the Sevii Islands.
