NordVPN said it found out about the breach a “few months ago,” but the spokesperson said the breach was not disclosed until today because the company wanted to be “100% sure that each component within our infrastructure is secure.” So instead of allowing their customers to do their own damage limitation, they left their customers in the dark and continued to expose them to a breach they weren't sure they had fully contained. If you transmit any kind of BitTorrent P2P traffic on certain servers, all of your active connections will be automatically terminated and you will be transferred onto a different server where file-sharing traffic is "allowed". This is not mentioned in the Terms of Service, and is only vaguely mentioned in the FAQ: "Yes, we allow P2P traffic on certain servers. The server list that allows it: Romania, Russia, Sweden, Latvia, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Canada." You can switch between a single VPN connection (singlehop), or routing your internet traffic through multiple VPN servers (multihop) at any time. The latter increases anonymity, but comes at the cost of a slightly worse performance. Furthermore their multihop system has a built in restriction that dictates that it must be a hop from one country to the next, so no Dallas to LA hop, but because of this there should be nothing too shocking about the overall latency. NY - Toronto - London can still edge under 100ms, LA - SLC - HK hitting 350 - 380ms is pretty normal for everyone. A single hop from Brooklyn to Jersey can be as low as 7ms, with 20ms to Atlanta. To further the point, really this means that if you route through a US node they may throttle you, but it may help to be on a private tracker. It certainly wouldn't affect you if you're connecting from a peer through Canada or Bucharest. See More

You maybe know or don't know Quake from Id Software. But this game had the best idea to hide/show a terminal window. Simply using full width but 26 rows. On show the widow slid down from top of screen. On hide it mode up to top edge of the screen until it disappeared. 2nd next best was the semi translucent background. You could still see through the terminal window while it was shown. The same style is now available in TotalTerminal and iTerm2 (OSX Terminal replacement - no Terminal plugin). See More
