Pros
Pro Strategic movement mechanic allows for interesting exploration
Enemies only move when you do, which means you can carefully plan your trek through each level and prepare for each battle instead of frantically running around. Furthermore, whenever you move, Reimu will deplete some of her "tummy" meter, and must be fed every once in a while or she will pass out from exhaustion. In order to eat, however, the food must be found and cooked as you explore the level. Carefully navigating while also managing the hunger resource gives movement and dungeon exploration a bit of a more strategic flair where you'll always be planning ahead.
Pro Encourages you to keep pushing forward
Whenever you die, you go back to the start of the current level and your character level resets, but you get to keep all your gear and various consumables. Even though you'll technically be starting over from character level 1, getting to keep all the loot you picked up along the way gives you solid sense of working towards a goal and encourages you to keep pushing forward. Additionally, all weapons and loot are completely random, so even if you have to do a level over, you'll have a chance to find a new and exciting weapon giving you a reason to keep exploring.
Pro Solid difficulty curve
While the first few levels are rather easy and serve as a basic introduction to the gameplay systems like combat and the "tummy" meter (basically, eat food to survive), the difficulty curve spikes up from there and each level gets progressively harder than the last. Traps, enemy types, and crafting are gradually introduced, and then built on over time as the game goes on, so it's rare to ever feel overwhelmed by the various mechanics.
Pro Highly replayable thanks to its random nature
Level layouts are generated randomly, so each time you play you'll have new dungeons to explore with a varied arrangement of enemies, food, and power up items. Weapons, crafting items, and other loot are also generated randomly so there's a chance to find something new each time you play. Even when you die and get sent back to the beginning of a level in true roguelike fashion, there will be enough variance in your subsequent runs so they remain enjoyable and give you something to look forward to.
Cons
Con Intrusive UI can cause frustration
The UI and map are overlayed in a way that blocks a lot of the on-screen action. There are large health bars as well as displays for character portraits, money, level name and floor, currently equipped weapons, and more. Additionally, the map overlay gets bigger as you explore and eventually ends up blocking a large portion of your view. This is especially frustrating when you're engaged in combat with a lot of enemies and you can't see anything on your screen because of all this clutter.
Con Randomized maps are laid out poorly
The randomly generated maps have a tendency to artificially bloat levels by including long hallways and lots of empty rooms that serve no purpose. Oftentimes, this poor mapping algorithm also leads to frustrating dead ends which requires long segments of backtracking.
Con Lots of pointless dialogue brings the game to a halt
Characters love to banter back and forth, usually with topics that have little to nothing to do with the plot. Not only does this result in loads of dialogue that has to be scrolled through, it keeps you from getting back to the action.
Con Storyline will only appeal to Touhou fans
Throughout the adventure, there is a healthy amount of name dropping and other fan service sprinkled in for Touhou fans, but unfortunately most of the plot and characters will be lost on people not familiar with the lore. None of it is explained with any kind of depth in-game, making the plot rather nonsensical and forgettable for all except diehard fans.
