Pro Great soundstage for a closed back headphone
The DT770 Pro especially with an amp creates an open feeling soundstage that is very impressive for a headphone with a closed back.
Pro Great sound quality
The bass on these headphones is not overpowering like many, instead the bass is clean and controlled. The overall sound signature is focused on the bass but the mids and highs are in no way lacking either.
Pro Very comfortable
Based on consumer reviews these headphones are extremely comfortable with soft ear cups and can be worn for hours.
Pro Impressive isolation and minimal sound leakage
These Beyerdynamics offer impressive sound isolation keeping exterior noise out and your music in.
Pro Sits well over your ears
The DT770s are very comfortable to wear with deep and spacious ear pads. These headphones can be worn for long periods of time with ease.
Con Headband isn't large enough to fit over a large head
While the Sennheiser's (my preferred one currently is a HD600, which is slightly higher priced) have headbands which can be adjusted to easily fit a 'hatsize 62/63' head, I had to tweak the DT770 Pro and DT990 Pro headbands with a Dremel to make it work for me as a comfortable fit over-ear, rather than a lifting-my-ears kind of headphone. ;-)
Con Way too much bass
DT770 (and the DT990 Pro as well) are way too busy pumping out low bass, resulting in sound distortion and the high end of the spectrum becoming washed out.
Compared to several Sennheiser's, a Grado (not in this price range, superb coil and absolutely LOUSY on-ear placement) and AKG's, I will always pick the Sennheiser's and AKG's over this one.
