LibreOffice has matured. It used to be the spinoff sister of OpenOffice, which in turn was a MS Office wannabe. They were both good but sorely lagged in converting to and from MS, which has been the widespread document format base for like forever. The current versions of LibreOffice are very capable, do their thing well and handle MS documents way better. Gone are the days of layout shifts. Thee might be a few bumps in there still, but as an office suite, LibreOffice in its own has become widespread and many people prefer it over the MS suite.
