Have a render that keeps crapping out on you? Render failing right in the middle? Before you begin your next render, do this:
- Hold down shift
- (with shift still held down) navigate to After Effects preferences
- Now you will have a preferences option at the very bottom that says "secret." You can let go of shift now
- In that window change the setting: purge every 0 frames to something like 15-20. Do not touch anything else in this window!
It basically empties your cache and memory every 15 frames or whatever you set it to. This can make renders take a bit longer, especially time based effects like time remapping or echo, but this will keep your pipes from getting clogged if you have a render that just does not wan't to finish. I crapped my pants when I learned this trick. I don't know why it's hidden.
