Pros
Pro Requires more tactics than other twin-stick shooters
Ammo is limited in the game, meaning the player needs to make each shot count. Where an enemy is hit matters as well. The center of their mass is the best place to shoot them, but of course this is not always easy. Due to the fact that ammo is limited and the placement of shots matters, it is up to the player to figure out the best strategy for conserving ammunition while killing each enemy. This requires patience and planning – two things that are often missing from run-of-the-mill twin-stick shooters.
Pro Intense co-op play
The whole game can be played in local or online co-op with up to three other players. Each stage is procedurally generated and features certain objectives you need to complete. Of course, there are also hordes of enemies to swarm you. Add in extra players and the action becomes quite turbulent. Additionally, there is no way to turn off friendly fire, which means everyone who is going in guns blazing may accidentally kill a friendly player. Everyone needs to keep a close eye on all the action in order to succeed.
Pro Heavily influenced by the film Starship Troopers
The main story of the game plays out a lot like the theme in Starship Troopers, where the world is united in exterminating an alien race on other planets. The sense of humor and over-the-top action of the film carry over into the game as well, so if you’re a fan of Starship Troopers you might want to check it out.
Pro Enemies go all out during extractions
At the end of each stage, the player/players must order an extraction vehicle. Once called, the players must ward off an onslaught of enemies for 90 seconds. Only one player needs to get on the extraction vehicle, which means all-out mayhem as each player can start unleashing their most devastating weapons. This is one of the most fun parts of the game.
Pro End-level scoring is even
Once a level is completed, each player is awarded a score. This score is not based on kill count, which means players can focus on other objectives and still come in first. Scoring this way helps encourage teamwork rather than kill-stealing, which is what co-op ought to be all about.
Cons
Con Joining co-op can be a pain
There is no way for everyone to just jump into a game. One player needs to host and then invite the others. The host also needs to be on all the other players’ friends lists, which may not always already be the case. This means more work to get everyone together.
