Bitdefender received a 6 out of 6 in both protection and usability from AV Test. From the AV Comparitives Mobile Security Review Bitdefender received a 99.4% detection rate result.
Bitdefender uses an internet connection during scans to speed the process to around 10 seconds. The speed of the scans also helps prevent any device slowdowns because they are complete so quickly.
Bitdefender users that pay $9.95 a year will be protected from viruses before they download them with URL filtering and will be able to take advantage of the whole anti-theft feature suite.
Kaspersky recieved a 99.7% detection rate result from the AV Comparitives Mobile Security Review behind only AhnLab and Kingsoft. From AV Test, Kaspersky recieved a 6/6 in both protection and usability.
Kaspersky is not the most lightweight application or as well optimized as applications such as Lookout. Some slowdowns may be experienced using Kaspersky but that may be a necessary sacrifice for Kaspersky's stronger virus detection rate.
Navigating the settings menu and other features in Kaspersky's mobile application is an awkward experience even with new redesigns. The application lacks a consistent design and the settings menu especially feels like one of the earlier Android applications designed.
The free version of Kaspersky will not automatically scan new applications after they are downloaded. Cloud enabled protection to react to fast and new threats is also a paid only feature. The paid version of Kaspersky is $14.95 a year.
Lookout is a lightweight application that has a small influence on device performance such as start up times and battery life. Although when downloading applications there is a slight slow down because Lookout will scan every application.
Lookout received a detection rate result of 96% from AV Comparatives' mobile security review ahead of some but behind Kaspersky, Bitdefender, and Avast!. AV Test gave Lookout a 5.5/6 protection score and and a 6/6 usability score behind Kaspersky and Bitdefender and tied with Avast!.
Lookout also offers the ability to check to see if your device is vulnerable to Heartbleed and if it has been affected with a separate application called Heartbleed Security Scanner. Unfortunately Lookout cannot fix the problem but it can warn you so you can alert the manufacturer and stop using your device.
Safe browsing (a feature that scans every link and site you visit), privacy advisor (manages and explains application permissions), remote lock, remote wipe, enhanced backup, and a few other features are reserved for premium users only. Fortunately though for antivirus purposes Lookout premium is unnecessary. Lookout premium is $3 a month.
AV Comparitives mobile security review scored Avast! with a detection rate of 99% above Lookout but behind Kaspersky and Bitdefender. Avast! received a 5.5/6 in protection and 6/6 in usability from AV Test, tied with Lookout but behind Kaspersky and Bitdefender.
Avast! is not as a lightweight application as Lookout but it still has less of an effect on performance than many other antivirus applications such as Kaspersky.
Some anti-virus features such as advertisement detector, application Management, SMS and Call Filter, Application Locking, and Network Meter are available only for premium users that pay $14.99 a month.
You will find out who is trying to get into your phone to see your secrets since the app will take pictures using the front camera when the lock is being played with.
