Japan's #1 competitive card collecting game. From the creators of mobile sensations Rage of Bahamut and Granblue Fantasy, Shadowverse features AAA artwork and unique game mechanics that make it the most visually and tactically rich CCG on the market.
Specs
Pros
Pro Very generous with free content
The game is very generous with free content compared to other online collectible card games. You will typically get a lot of free card packs when starting a new account and whenever a new expansion is released.
You will also get a free token to enter the Take Two play mode every day, where you will be able to compete with other players on even turns regardless of the size of you collection, and win prices depending on how well you performed.
Pro Few random elements
The game is designed to minimise the amount of randomness in the game, making it more skill based. The "Evolve" mechanic also rewards thoughtful play and requires more strategy than other games.
Pro Excellent AI for solo games
One of the joys of Shadowverse as a new player is the challenging and rewarding story mode, as well as the practice mode where the AI is shockingly intelligent. Allows new players to really learn how to play the game and become better at fine tuning their decks.
Pro Unique art style and visual animations
Though the anime art style isn't appealing to everyone, the animations and visual appearance of the game is refreshing and exciting.
Cons
Con Anime style art that is not for everyone
Due to the game being developed primarily in Japan, the Japanese art style is used. The main turnoff is the high amount of sexually suggestive women depicted in card art.
Con UI is optimized for mobile devices
While this looks good on phones and tablets, this makes the interface clunky and unattractive on PC
Con Pay to play at the highest level
If you want to play at the highest possible level, you will probably have to pay quite a bit. However, the game is still very enjoyable playing for free or casual as you will be matched against other players at your level.
Con Simplistic card game
While the game is quite difficult to master, the mechanics are very simple.
E.g. only a few reactionary mechanics, really little if then effects (e.g. Griffon Knight discards a card and deals 2 damage to an enemy follower instead of having the discard be the required cost to pay for the damage).
