just do
mkdir ~/todo
cd ~/todo
git init
and make a bash function that does an

cd ~/todo/
echo $1 >> todo.txt
git add todo.txt
git commit -m "My change $2"
git push

You can add bash functions to easily add to your todo list or remove items.

just add one line to your .bashrc and you are done

Mandatory for slant posts of open source products (or so it seems)

~/todo-work
~/todo-games
~/todo-code
~/todo-family

cat $HOME/todo.txt
And you get reminded of all the things you have to do
