Pros
Pro Community hub
At the BYOND Hub, players can look for games, and creators can discuss ideas in the forums. Creators can publish their games to the Hub for free, anytime, at any point in the game's creation. This has two sides: this means that if you use the Hub well, you can get as much or as little player feedback as you like on your game's development, as players join your game and play together what you've created. However, since it is so easy to publish on the BYOND Hub, there are many games that seem incomplete. For this reason, the BYOND Hub is not ideal as the only place you publish or advertise your game.
Pro Close-knit community
If you are looking for a community where your ideas and requests will be discussed, and sometimes implemented, BYOND may be great for you. The BYOND team is constantly developing the DM language and software, making it even better than before. There are also contents held by the community, such as "Game In A Day," in which creators give themselves a limit of 24 hours to make their game, after which winners are announced, receiving glory.
Pro Multiplayer online fully supported
BYOND shines when it comes to multiplayer online gaming. If you are looking to make a single player game, BYOND can hold its own among other 2D game engines, but when it comes to multiplayer online game engines, BYOND is one of the best. Multiplayer online gaming is built in and strongly supported as the most important feature of the software, so that even with only a few lines of code, you can already have a simple multiplayer online game.
Cons
Con Uses its own programming language
The programming language is DM, which stands for Dream Maker, which is a language constantly being developed by the BYOND team (currently led by Lummox Jr), and improved according to the requests of a close-knit community. If you are looking to learn a language that can be used on projects other than BYOND games, DM may not be your language. But if you are looking to learn an easy language that helps you make multiplayer online 2D games, then DM is for you!
