The player can sell their loot (gathered from a dungeon) for in game money, to then be spent on needed equipment or can equip their loot to try harder dungeons to get better loot to sell for new equipment. Each action is a gamble and may or may not pay off for the player.
The game has a nice retro pixel art style. From the menus to the dungeons or shop there is a very familiar aesthetic to the overall design that would have fit in quite well on consoles in the 80's.
There are wait times in the game for both crafting and adventuring. This makes it impossible to sit and play for any length of time and makes the user have to come back to the game often in order to make any significant progress.
Eighty Eight Games took what they learned from their previous title 10000000 and refined it even further while adding new mechanics to make a smooth cycle of matching tiles and leveling up that never gets dull or grindy.
While a current trend the simplistic graphics and music may turn some people off when looking for a current game. The gameplay itself is fantastic but the 8bit style graphics do look pretty low effort.
While the basis of the game is being a clicker game, there are elements of timing needed for when an ability should be performed, which adds a lot of strategy to the play.
Depending on the Pokemon one picks for their team the player is able to mix and match in order to plan ahead for what type of match they will be up against. Sometimes this takes a bit of trial and error but for the most part is a deep way to add strategy to what is basically a match 3 game.
Originally this free-to-play title was released for the Nintendo 3DS but has since been ported to mobile. The port offers better graphics over the original due to the game now being able to be played on stronger hardware with higher resolution screens. The graphics are all high res now and look quite sharp.
Nintendo often has giveaways and events that allow players to gain hard to get Poekemon. Users who have been playing since the release of the game will have a slight advantage by having these hard to gain Pokemon on their teams, which for new users will be a bit of a hurdle for multiplayer and single player.
The bread and butter of the game is customizing ones characters loadouts. Customizing their abilities and gear is a huge part of the game that will draw people in that enjoy slightly altering stats in unique ways.
The characters in the game are not directly controlled, but are on auto pilot only seeing the player press a few buttons in the correct order in order to clear blocks in ones path. This is more a tapping button game over a full fledged RPG.
