Unity Learn provides a variety of ways to learn about tutorials. Projects provides step-by-step tutorials on creating different games. There are tutorials on a variety of different topics, such as audio and navigation.
There is also the official documentation and community.
These tutorials are less than ideal for beginners who don't have a programming background. Though Unity Learn does provide some coding tutorials, they tend to be faster paced than is comfortable for someone learning their first programming language.
The main draw back is that the first version of Hack & Slash is quite dated (uses Unity 3). However the author has started creating new tutorials with Unity5, including a new Hack & Slash series in the works.
It's easy to tell how enthusiastic the instructor/creator of the tutorials is about Unity. He teaches in a very clear way, including tips and tricks as he goes.
The tutorial consists of two posts, part 1 and part 2. Though beneficial as an introduction, it isn't enough to give someone a solid foundation/understanding of Unity.
Jonathan says, "When I first picked up Unity eight years ago, my only real goal was to get a career in game development using the engine, but I had trouble finding video tutorials that didn’t spoon-feed the answers. I was frustrated with the learning curve and my inability to do anything except copy and paste lines of code because the logic behind coding was never explained."
When asked why, the instructor stated, "These types of games are easy to demonstrate all of the basic mechanics you will need to make a game." Drag and drop, Match 3 or puzzle combat programming are not covered however, you should be able to discover the answers on your own after you have completed the course.
The instructor only provides enough information for you to understand what's going on and find your own solutions. If you are looking for cut and paste, this isn't the course for you.
The Build Minecraft tutorials are written for people with no Unity experience. The pace is ideal for an introductory tutorial, and everything is well explained.
