ne is a free text editor for the terminal based on the POSIX standard, that runs on almost every architecture and UNIX-like operating system. ne is easy to use for beginners, offering a familiar drop-down menu text user interface, but powerful and configurable enough for terminal ninjas too, and most sparing in its resource usage. A stable plugin API makes it easy to extend the featureset to suit your workflow almost any way you like.

Cons
Con Backspace key does not work in some consoles
You have to press Crtl-H in some cases to bet a backspace. This is more a problem of unstandardised consoles than of ne, but other editors manage to work around it more consistently.
