Heroes are well thought out, with immersive lore courtesy of SEMC's Sugarvenom. The stories are amazing and even the smallest detail is described in depth. (The Stormguard Saga is a good place to start if you're interested).
Vainglory is available for free on Android's Google Play Store and the iOS' App Store for both tablets and phones. Users on both platforms are able to play together.
Tablets, with their larger screens allow for a good sense of control over the game, which makes Vainglory something that plays best on larger screens devices due to how much is happening on the screen.
For a mobile MOBA, having 30+ characters to choose from is not too shabby, which gives a nice level of choice to the player as well as stretches the content of the game for those who want a variety of different gameplay and strategy.
Vainglory enforces the Low-Priority Queue to toxic players who: AFK, lose intentionally, ping rudely, and leave during hero select causing matchmaking to take almost twice as long. These players must complete a number of games without breaking these rules to get out of the Low-Priority Queue, or risk even longer matchmaking and more matches needing completion.
Mobile Legends skins are all pay-to-look-good whereas Vainglory skins can be crafted from scratch. The splash art and in-game look are truly amazing with different recall animations and in-game effects. Mobile Legends have an exclusive skin every month which you need to pay for. You have to be a starlight member in order to get that skin.
Vainglory is a mobile E-sport (one of the very few) , with massive prizes and many pro teams that may be familiar if you play other MOBAs (such as LoL).
Aside from a few skins and hero emotes, there really isn't anything to splash cash on making it so that the game does not rely on real cash to progress.
10 unique ranks, each with more difficulty to climb. Draft mode when rank is at a high enough level. If player is inactive, their rank will decay over time. Rank will have a small reset after each season (as of Autumn 2017).
For a mobile MOBA having 44 characters to choose from is not too shabby, which gives a nice level of choice to the player as well as stretches the content of the game for those that want to learn and customize each one. They add a new hero every month.
Unique controls which are extremely weird for most people. Basically same controls like LoL, but on mobile. Takes practice cause if you make a minor mistake, you could still get killed by enemy team. Practice and practice and you'll get used to it.
The main hindrance why most prefer other mobile competitors. Although it delivers everything very well, older generation of devices have storage issues. The game is roughly 1.8gb+ when fully installed as of update 3.2
You need very good internet speed to be lag-free. SEA servers are the only one who often encounter server problems. This may be because of the number of players online or carrier connections.
For a mobile MOBA having 32 characters to choose from is not too shabby, which gives a nice level of choice to the player as well as stretches the content of the game for those that want to learn and customize each one.
Vainglory devs lost their servers and released a Community Edition, which is currently on pause development-wise. The game has been pulled from Steam, Samsung, and Amazon platforms, and is only available on iOS App Store and Android Play Store. Developers intend to get back to the game in the future, but there's no definite timeline.
Playing the game together in real life gives an advantage over those who play solo-queue or away from friends due to the in game communication consisting of only pings and preset messages. (Updated. Now teams can only be matched with teams.)
As the title suggests, there is only one map (the Halcyon Fold) in the game, which means there is only the usual strategic positions and same old hiding places (which can give veteran players who have memorized said positions an edge over novices). It can also look quite redundant and may be boring.
You can obtain golden tickets for 5v5 early access, however, if you want an instant ticket, you have to pay $20 USD to straightaway obtain one. Pretty much pay to get good stuff?
The game has no bushes but the restricted map view (due to fog of war) makes the use of wards vital. This is a concept that lacks from other games of this genre.
Even the most "fed" player will struggle to win alone at teamfights. That makes the game great for teams and allow players to show their real skills at MOBA games.
There's always daily missions to complete that will give nice rewards. Special event missions give even better rewards. Such missions are easy to do, so you'll most likely finish them after you feel like you're done playing anyway.
Don't expect people to talk nice, as they will often end up insulting you for just calling a role and picking it. You can expect trolling, racism, and hate speech as well.
There are many purchasable in-game items in Heroes Evolved, with their own passives and actives. The wide variety of these items makes it interesting to explore the game.
Keeps recommending new player to play rank while the only hero one would have is Minerva and the log in bonus for new players would only award you one hero at most, such as a Rockman, which is worse compared to VG, ML and AoV that would award new players around five heroes for logging in or playing the game.
Certain items - e.g. Searing Longsword. Demonic Mask - have been so overwhelmingly strong that they have been staples for years. They have moulded the meta and pushed older heroes out of competitive playability completely. Instead of buffing/nerfing items and heroes to keep the game fresh, the developers have just added extra features to the game in the form of different modes, or tried to hide the problem by releasing increasingly powerful heroes.
AoV players must be tired of saying "we're not copies of LoL, Tencent bought out Riot so they own the IP".
As much of a copy this game is, it doesn't deliver anywhere near an experience that LoL offers. Better stick to something more original and true to MOBAs like Vainglory.
Buying runes and champs takes a lot of time. They always try to get the money out of your wallet first if you want to catch up meta. New champs are always stronger than the old ones.
Lags heavily in 4GB RAM or below devices, with regular ping problems. For those living in a SEA region a constant ping of 120 is normal. Even India to Thailand or Korea servers give you 90 ping.
Great graphics, great gameplay, great texture and effects. Good set of characters. Can easily go head to head against expensive characters using cheaper ones. Overall you're gonna have a great time playing the game. Only issue would be long queue time.
The graphics of the game is amazing, really a fine art. Balanced gameplay too, balanced hero pool (Every hero / shikigami is great if you know how to utilized it). Developer regularly updates the game too with various events, new heroes, skins, even collaboration events like Inuyasha crossover (the new one are with Bleach, but still in the China server, hope NetEase will make it to all server).
As the game isn't heavily advertised expect long queues at certain times (approx 3 min and upwards). Plus the game as of now takes up about 4-5 GBs of space. It has a lot of potential to be an amazing game but it needs to be advertised so there can be a larger player base eliminating long queue time.
The matchmaking of this game itself causes many rage quits in game be it any tier. You can't play to your full potential more than half of the time because either your teammates are cancer noobs or pros carrying the whole game and trolling others. Then if someone played so bad that they deserve to be punished the game hardly punishes them. the punishment system is extremely bad but the developers never pay attention to it
It's the most popular MOBA game but only in Souteast Asia since a majority of ML players don't have phones. Outside those areas though, it struggles to fight with Leauge of Legends & Dota 2
Some players in the community act like they know what is the best. All developer's actions are WRONG because they're not following what-is-the-best for player. Skin stat boost? You can see how many kids are playing this game.
Heroes are released pretty quickly every month weeks — there have been new heroes like Atlas, Wanwan as of March 2020 but every new hero seems like a ripoff of some other popular PC moba games like League of Legends and Dota 2
Most games are very close. There are no champions that are "broken", and matchups place you with and against players of equal skill levels. (This is sarcasm)(All the heroes are broken)
They pay attention more to their new heroes. Their old heroes have become useless and are not taken n ranks, and meanwhile They are underestimated. Even though most players complain about imbalance, they ignore it. They keep buffing new overpowered heores more and more but do nothing to their old but loyal heroes of the initial Mobile Legends. How sad to see your favourite heroes to be called useless.
You can have stat bonuses if you buy a skin with real money, but the bonuses can be considered negligible (e.g. +8 Physical Atk for Assassins/Fighter/Marksman, +8 Magic Power for Mages, and +100 HP for tanks).
Most heroes have stuns and disables, which makes the gameplay challenging. Too many stuns doesn't allow players to show their full skill-play since after the 3 sec stuns there are very few ways to escape and probably leads to an instadeath.
Eventhough graphics is medicore, its not well optimized that even midrange phones are having a hard time playing this title fluently. There are mobas out there that looks better and runs better than this game sad to say, it really is a bummer since this game is really fun to play.
In casual matches, you will get noobs, toxic players and afk 99% of the time as your team and/or as your enemies. The only way to prevent this is to get friends to play with you or be in a squad. 100% recommend playing ranked matches to have a better chance of a good gameplay.
Players can purchase slight advantages if they use real world money. Harder swings that cause more damage or faster movement in general are purchasable upgrades found in the in-app purchase store. This creates an unbalanced playing field as players with more money to waste will have an advantage.
There are three maps available to play on that allow solo play where the user plays with a team of bots or online play where the player can play with two other real players vs 3 others real players and then a five vs five made up of real players on each team. If any one team does not find enough live players bots will be used in their place. This allows for not only a good way to practice, with the solo play, but also good medium and large matches.
Not even some PC MOBAs have 52 heroes in game, this is quite a large amount, which creates a good bit of longevity to the game for those that want to learn each one.
Queue times may be longer than expected because the game isn't marketing that much for NA and EU, which makes for less players when compared to other popular mobile MOBAs.
Instead of having to continually tap ones screen to move units, the game has implemented swipe controls, which may make the game easier to control for some as well as cut down on how much tapping one needs to do.
While not the highest amount of heroes in a mobile MOBA, nine heroes is not too shabby and gives a modicum of choice to the player and adds some longevity to the game for those that want to learn all 9.
This can give an advantage to those that are playing in a group together in the same room or are communication over a phone or voip, as they will be bale to sync up their efforts easier than those playing with random partners that have no way of communication.
This can definitely be a problem when matches last 15 minutes, as it is a time investment that can be completely lost if a crash or game breaking bug occurs.
There are no items when playing pvp, therefore there are no builld paths and no attack and ability upgrades. Also the team levels up together, so the team who farms the most will automatically get an edge over the other team.
