The magic system in Mage Gauntlet consists of a limited moveset of four spells that need to be replenished from in world urns, making for a bit of a balancing act of when to use spells in order to get through the tougher parts of each level.
There are many items and weapons to be found in the game as well as many choices in how to level a character. This also creates a good reason to replay the title in order to find items not seen yet or create character classes not used yet.
Levels in the game are grid based, meaning the character can only move in a four way gird of tiles, ut once landing next to an enmy the game goes to a turn based combat system more like a JRPG. This makes for a compelling mixture of tactics and turn based play.
