You won't believe how good Connect is until you use it yourself, and even then you'll dwell from time to time on how it came to pass that the best piece of software that KDE produced in a quarter century ended up being a mobile phone connectivity app. I sure do. Let's take a quick inventory of things it does for me daily. *Quick and painless mirroring of notifications and SMS from phone to desktop, including SMS replies *Shared media playback and control. If I'm playing music on the computer, there will be a notification on the phone with play/pause/skip and volume, and if I'm playing something from the phone it comes through the computer speakers, complete with muting of either source when calls come in. *Truly solid remote input from device to device, one's keyboard and mouse/touchpad are just as easily used on the other. *Fantastic desktop locking anytime I walk away from the computer with my phone, to the point Microsoft should be on suicide watch for being so poor where KDE Connect is so polished. That's just what I use it for daily. The once or twice a week features are just as succulent I assure you. See More

Good software is written once and well, and then sold with a perpetual license. Happy users are welcome to buy new versions in future years or continue using the one they already bought. Toxic business models feature CEO's explaining the juicy but unwarranted revenue stream they will create with gullible user's wallets by charging monthly/annual fees for software that should have been written once, paid for once. Thanks to KDE we can choose the former and are free to reject the latter. See More

Got it from google play for phone and from microsoft store for win10 laptop. The phone client found the laptop client after it was installed on the phone as the 2nd device. Once they saw each other I tended to the permissions on the phone for the phone client. Couldn't figure out how to send the sms and do some of the things I wanted to do through the win10 client. Then tried looking in the taskbar tray and found it. Right click on the icon in the tray and you can select the device and then trigger the sync of the contacts. Once contacts are synced it is easy to manage/reply by rt clicking tray - selecting device and then selecting action. Worked pretty flawlessly overall -- just wasn't clear at first how to get the sms/file/image share bit going but once that is sorted it's perfect. Thanks so much for freeing me from the pushbullet wallet bleed (I wouldn't even consider paying 40$ a year, every year, forever for something of this nature -- it's really abusive pricing -- I really can't believe pushbullet chose a wallet bleed/revenue stream parasitic business model for an app of that nature). I will be donating to/buying from the KDE dev group. See More

AirDroid has always been the more ambitious of the two platforms, and in the beginning Pushbullet's more conservative approach and prioritization of simplicity over innovation wasn't so glaring, but now it is. I'll suffer the occasional hiccup/delay and need to repeat a command now and then for a product that easily permits ten times the number of remote interactions. KDE Connect still wins here even against AirDroid's swanky screen mirroring, but Pushbullet isn't even in the conversation anymore. See More
