A game that features both turn-based strategy elements and RTS-combat is pretty hard to find, but Autumn Dynasty Worlds manages to combine both gameplay elements into a seamless experience.
The game is beautifully crafted with great watercolor-like visuals and an easy to use interface. Autumn Dynasty Warlords manages to represent the feudal China setting extremely well.
The traditional 4X gameplay has been refined and more streamlined which cranks up the funfactor. For example, you have to take a lot different factors into account such as diplomacy and battlefield locations.
Autumn Dynasty Warlords is a game that controls great on a touchscreen. Although most games are better suited on a larger screen such as an iPad, Autumn plays pretty well on an iPhone without control issues.
There are many different types of units and buildings in the game, but not all of them are useful and necessary. For example, some of the higher-end advanced buildings have little to no positive effect on the battlefield.
Users have experienced some bugs and small technical issues while playing the game, mostly resulting in crashes. Nothing serious or game-breaking, but they can be quite disturbing nonetheless.
Empire is available for $2,99 in the App Store, which makes it one of the cheaper games in its genre. The game also has no microtransactions or any other form of advertisement at all.
The classic Civilization gameplay elements and characteristics are translated well from the original pc game in the mobile app. The game is also filled with lots of content, ensuring multiple hours of gameplay.
Altough the entry price of $2,99 is quite low compared to other 4X strategy games, the developers try to make up for it with in-app purchases. The IAP's are relatively small, ranging from $0.99 to $3.99. Nonetheless, microtransactions in a paid game are undesireable.
Some users are reporting technical crashes and issues with the game on older devices. Thankfully, there aren't many bug reports for some newer devices starting from iOS 7.
If there's one thing where Eclipse stands out, it's gameplay. Build your own space empire and take care of everything from military conquests to exploration and gathering resources.
The game offers three different AI settings, which are basically difficulty levels. For people who prefer a single-player experience, Eclipse offers a level of challenge for all players.
Altough Eclipse: New Dawn for the Galaxy is one of the more accessible 4X games in the App Store, the learning curve for the game's mechanics are still on the higher side.
This is a fantastic game. If you enjoyed Master of Orion, you will love this. Single player mode is fun, but the real fun comes when you pit yourself against other players. Lots of ways to win. You can be a race of superintelligent aliens, a dark spy race, a race of hardened warriors, a race of traders. Lots of flexibility in the design of your race, wonderful tech system where each new tech really changes the play of the game. Can't be recommended highly enough for those with the patience to give a deep strategy game its due.
Master of Orion was a wildly popular pc-game with a lot of interesting and unique gameplay elements, but hasn't aged very well. Thankfully, Starbase Orion can be seen as a spiritual successor and is based on the same elements that made Master of Orion great.
Singleplayer and Multiplayer are both quite common in this genre, but Starbase Orion stands out from the competition thanks to a well-engaged community with additional modes for user leagues and tournaments.
The many different aspects of this game and the fact that Starbase Orion is filled with content and different gameplay scenario's also account to a high replay value.
Starbase Orion was released in 2011 and requires a device with iOS 5.1.1 or later. This low requirement makes the game very playable on older Apple devices.
