Makes for fun interesting scenarios, as there is a portal on each side of the screen that allows arrows flying off the left side to come in on the right. It also allows for trick shots by utilizing one side of the screen to shoot enemies on the other. This adds to the challenge, as you need to be conscious of your partners placement as they can be hit with your shots.

While Stardew Valley is primarily a farming simulator, it also has social interaction elements and combat elements. The social interaction elements allow you to interact with people around the town. You can befriend them, get quests from them, hang out with them, and even find a significant other to go out with and eventually marry. It can be very addictive to max out your relationship with everyone. The combat elements are introduced when you unlock the dungeon, allowing you to battle creatures such as slimes, golems, and even mummies. While the combat is pretty simple, having you just swing your weapon, it's very satisfying to whack away at enemies. If farming ever starts feeling stale you can try either of these to mix it up, allowing you to keep the game fresh for a longer time.

Just like in the real world, operating a farm is a lot of work, especially if one is set on expanding said farm. It's mostly the hidden enemies that attack you as soon as you approach their hiding spots, causing you to take needless damage or even die. This adds a really tedious trial and error aspect that forces you to memorize all enemy placements just so you can beat a stage. In addition to dealing with the enemies, the timing of jumps or using special skills at the right moment adds to the frustration. Press the button too early or too late and you'll end up back at the start of a platforming section or worse, dead.

Even their names are references such as Brobocop (Robocop), Bro Lee (Bruce Lee), or Brominator (Terminator).

With a litany of mods available, a great number of combinations are possible, allowing you to customize your experience with the game as you wish, be it new biome types, new gameplay systems, animations, music, skins, cosmetic items, props and entirely new crafting and tech trees. There are a few small features in the game that add up to making sure the player is never too distracted or pulled out of the action. Things like once a stage is cleared and all coins dropped by your fallen foes will be magnetically pulled to you, just to make sure time is not wasted running around picking up currency. Another is that each map has numerous teleporter nodes, which makes for fast and easy travel. And lastly there is a quick start in the main menu that allows the player to jump right back into the action the next time they start up the game. All these things add up to an ease of use that makes sure the player is never too distracted by the un-fun elements of play.

A lot of the shooting elements in this game revolve around SHMUP like mechanics. Players will need to doge a juke many bullets on screen at ones. Luckily there is a roll capability that allows the player to doge when in a precarious position. Often in a roguelite game there can be the chance of getting delt a bum hand on any particular run, luckily Enter the Gungeon does not suffer from this issue as there is a good balance of the gunplay mechanics that sees any death by you as your own fault of not playing to your max ability. Never is it some cheap shot or some item that was not able to be picked up this run, it is just your skill and awareness of wht is being shot at you that matters the most.

While Co-op in most games makes a game easier, Crypt of the Necrodancer is the opposite. This boils down to three main reasons. First, you and your co-op partner have to share money and items. This can lead to two under-equipped characters that struggle with killing enemies and surviving their blows. Second, there's no splitscreen, meaning your movements need to be in sync with your partners. If you happen to go in the opposite directions, you can get stuck or attract multiple groups of enemies, causing you to get overwhelmed. Third, you share one beat counter with your co-op partner. So if one if you misses a beat, that's the end of a combo for the both of you. Not keeping up a combo means you'll have less gold and consequently less gear.

Taking action in the game uses up your stamina, so you'll still have to make time for things like eating and sleeping if you want to have energy for things like digging through walls, fighting other inmates, or cutting through vents and gates. Items such as shovels and cutters have limited durability, so they can't be used endlessly. Raw materials can be found around the prison to craft items, or you can buy items from fences using money earned by running fetch quests for other inmates. No matter how you acquire them, crafting materials and finished goods are limited so you'll have to use your items wisely. Time is an important factor that has to be managed too, with certain activities having to be done at certain times. This limits the amount of time you have to roam the prison, since you have to show up for meal times and roll calls. Free time can be used to craft, roam the prison to determine the guard patterns, or finally put your ultimate escape plan into action. Juggling each and every one of the various aspects of the game results in a very deep and rewarding simulation experience.

Like many point and click games of the era, it utilizes a verb based action system and dialogue trees to navigate and interact with the world. Adventure gamers who grew up with the Lucasarts' classic adventure games will find many similarities here in the look and feel of the game, resulting in a game that could be right at home in the late 80s and early 90s.

There are five playable characters total. Two are available from the start of the game, and three more have their own scenario to play through when first introduced into the game. These scenarios showcase the characters' backgrounds and personalities via their own mini-storyline that draws heavily on comedy and allows the player to learn more about each character. Each of these scenarios concludes with them joining the main storyline where you are free to swap between them at will. Each and every playable character has their own goals, which are made clear on their personalized to-do lists, which act as a quest log of sorts, and help guide the player on what to do next to keep the story moving along. Among the five playable characters you will play as two federal agents, a clown with a swearing problem (although this is bleeped out in game), a lovable nerd who aspires to be a game developer, and even a ghost who is trapped and can't pass on into the afterlife. There are also a dozen or so supporting characters, and while not controlled by the player, were not neglected in their writing. From the town's sheriff, who also seemingly acts as a front desk clerk and coroner - although he adamantly denies this fact to hilarious effect throughout the game - to the bum outside the convenience store who begs for change, each and every one is well developed with their own quirks and personality that are artfully consistent throughout the entire playthrough.

The story begins with two federal agents investigating a murder a little outside the strange, surreal town of Thimbleweed Park. While the initial main focus of the story revolves around solving the murder, it quickly branches out from there as the agents enter the town and start questioning the locals. During this investigation, a bunch of new characters (three becoming playable) and their respective subplots and stories are introduced into the game. The murder soon fades into the background, as the personal stories of the playable characters take front and center. Each playable character's story will be experienced in full resulting in being able to see the same overarching storyline from a multitude of different viewpoints. Each of these subplots are well-written as they all relate to each other in some way, offer a fresh perspective, and also contribute plot elements to the main story as a whole. Throughout the game, the writing is consistent and each of the various subplots and story elements all serve to reinforce the overarching story. Near the end of the game, many of the plot points have been neatly addressed and concluded, resulting in a rewarding game experience that really prioritizes a story-first approach.

Most of the city of Thimbleweed Park and it's surrounding areas are immediately available to explore and take in the scenery. While some of it is gated by story for gameplay reasons, there is still a huge amount of content that is available to immerse yourself in the minute you start the game. As the game progresses, the explorable area becomes bigger and bigger as more locations are discovered. A fast travel map system is introduced, making it quick and easy to get wherever you want to go with a few clicks. This is extremely helpful when moving from one end of the map to the other, and shaves away hours of travel time by the time the game concludes.

You can easily spend hours just observing the world around you. Every creature has its own life it lives even when they are offscreen. There are no boss introductions. Enemies/creatures just come and go as they please. They have their own lives, and yours and theirs can intersect. It's an open world game so huge that it is nearly impossible to discover everything in your first playthrough. There is always more to learn.

In rain world, you play as a tiny, cute slugcat, near the bottom of the food chain. Upon first playing the game, the movement system may feel a little clunky, as it features unfamiliar control schemes, and strange movement, but many who have mastered this little creature will say that he has some of the most in depth, and masterful controls in all of gaming.

 Engaging classic turn-based combat with plenty of strategy involved

The battles are a great throwback to older JRPGs with enough of a contemporary twist. You have the familiar setup of a party of four characters standing in a line opposite the enemies, all of whom have their own weaknesses for you to figure out. Your party takes turn attacking the enemy to find their specific weaknesses, whether it's to sword attacks, certain elemental spells, and so on. Once you find it, pummeling their weakness depletes their armor, and then you land your strongest hits to combo for massive damage. But their weaknesses can change as the battle goes on, so you have to strategize with how to maximize your damage before that change happens. The system is pretty engaging in the way it keeps you on your toes for every fight.

 Gorgeous old school visuals with a modern touch

Octopath Traveler is a beautiful game that updates the nostalgic JRPG formula, especially with the graphics. The characters are all expressive 16-bit sprite models in 2D, calling back to games from the SNES era, while the backgrounds are in 3D with an incredible amount of detail. Walking through snowy mountains, across beaches, or through deserts, parts of the backgrounds glitter in the sunlight in captivating ways. It's a unique style that appeals to longtime JRPG fans while keeping things modern enough for the current console generation.

 The job system lets you tailor everyone's playstyles however you want

While everyone begins as their own set job, such as warrior, dancer, and so on, you can further customize everyone to your liking. As you progress through the story, you eventually get the option to assign secondary jobs to everyone, meaning they get the benefits of both their main job and the second one you give them. You can give your warrior access to healing magic, for example, to shore up his weaknesses, or double-down and assign him a more combat-oriented secondary job. You can't give more than two characters the same second job, though, so you have to be selective in how you choose to customize everyone.

Binding of Isaac has remarkably legitimate artistic and thematic reasons for filling the game world with things like feces, acne, urine, dirty needles, and countless other aspects of the human existence we'd rather not dwell on any more than necessary. But that doesn't change the fact that it does so. Anyone who can get into the stellar gameplay will soon be able to look past this aesthetic, but there's gonna be people who'd rather not try.

Cuphead is a very unique visual spectacle in the gaming world, looking exactly like a cartoon from the 1930s. The environments, characters, and even special effects are very detailed, colorful, and drawn entirely by hand on animation paper, complete with a grainy film effect. The end result is pure eye candy that puts most modern cartoons to shame.
