Specs
Pros
Pro Good color gamut volume, good for occasional graphical work
The BenQ XL2730Z manages to achieve a higher than average color gamut volume compared to other, similarly priced TN monitors. Over 71% of the Adobe RGB color gamut can be viewed, while sRGB range is measured at 103.59%.
Pro Extremely bright
When measuring the maximum brightness of the display, the BenQ XL2730Z performs very well. Maximum white luminance is measured at 351 cd/m², which is above average for displays in this price range. Where the XL2730Z excells however is black luminance (minimum brightness), where a result of 0.14 cd/m² is achieved on maximum intensity.
Pro Sharper than Full HD thanks to 1440p resolution
The BenQ XL2730Z uses a sharp 1440p resolution which is a noticeable improvement over Full HD in terms of desktop size and in-game image quality. Compared to Full HD, there are 1.7 times more pixels displayed on the screen. This screen measures at 108 pixels per inch (ppi), while a Full HD resolution would result in a noticeably less sharp 82 ppi.
Pro Excellent black/white screen uniformity
In terms of black and white screen uniformity, the panel used in the XL2730Z performs excellently. The average black level deviation is 5.63%, which is better than similarly priced TN-panels. The same uniformity test was taken for white level results, with similar results. The XL2730Z performs very well with a deviation that is not noticeable to the naked eye - only a signficantly higher priced IPS display outperforms the XL2730Z.
Pro Fast response time, perfect for gaming
With a response time of just 1ms, the XL2730Z is one of the fastest monitors on the market. In terms of a full Black to White transition - the most intensive response time scenario - speed was measured at 7ms, which is considered the best possible result for TN-based gaming monitors. Ideal for fast-paced gaming situations such as first person shooters.
Cons
Con Bad vertical viewing angles
The viewing angles of the BenQ XL2730Z aren't great, especially when viewing the screen on a vertical plane. In photographs of the display taken at a 45° vertical angle, color shifting and severe loss of brightness can clearly be seen.
