Pros
Pro Incredibly deep gameplay
The exploration, crafting and combat are all both very polished and deep in terms of what you can do, especially compared to other games in the genre. This makes the sandbox very fun to play in as you're never really stuck doing the same thing over and over.
Pro Extremely unique character design
With charming species of aliens such as the tribal meat-loving snake-tounged plant people, and the wild west stardust novakids, starbound provides a vast array of content to explore. Mechs, hoverbikes, mercenaries, planet exploration, and so much more. Starbound is an underrated gem of a survival game.
Cons
Con The developer/publisher Chucklefish doesn't keep its promises
There are features promised years ago that have still not been implemented. They lied about Starbounds multiplayer functionality in comparison to Terraria (it's exactly the same, same cheats, no server-side characters, same item import system).
Con First few hours are boring
Initially the player needs to amass enough coal to fuel their ship, which is a bit of a grind.
