Pros
Pro Deepens the roguelike experience
Road Not Taken, like any good rougelike title, is all about discovery and using your accumulated knowledge, but it adds a few twists to it.
First, you can combine the items to create new items to help you in progressing. This gives you a reason to experiment, even if combining animals might seem weird at first. Discovering the recipe for something really useful feels rewarding. You also have The Book of Secrets to help you keep track of all the recipes, even after death.
Second, you won't be always fighting since the game has randomized puzzles. These require you to move around various objects and they get more difficult as you progress. You often have to solve them to proceed, which makes this game feel different from other roguelikes.
Pro Easier to learn than other roguelikes
Road Not Taken has an in-game notebook called The Book of Secrets. It records all the items (including enemies) and recipes you've discovered. You can check the entries to get hints, which help with learning the game. Even if you happen to die and start over, you won't lose any of the notebook entries.
Cons
Con Progression can feel very slow at times
Some of the mechanics are not very obvious, so you'll be dying a lot and learning through trial-and-error. Dying also means you'll lose your progress and will have to restart from the beginning. This can be very frustrating, but gradually gaining knowledge is a part of the roguelike genre.
