It has a backlight display that you can read even in the dark. You don't need to open the lights and disturb your sleeping baby when taking his/her temperature.
Ear thermometers generally cost more than other types. You also have to buy disposable lens filters for this thermometer. It won't function without it.
There's always the fear of you inserting a rectal thermometer the wrong way and hurting your baby. Also, since it requires you to lift the baby's legs to insert it into his anus, it will disturb your baby if he is resting.
This thermometer has two modes: forehead and ear. You only have to remove the cap at the top to turn it from a forehead thermometer to an ear thermometer.
First-time parents or those who don't like the idea of sticking a thermometer inside their baby's rectum will like this. You will only use this on your baby's forehead or your child's ear as he grows older. There is no fear of puncturing anything at all.
You can use this on your baby's forehead and in your baby's ears when he gets older than 6 months. You save money since you can use this for when your baby is young and as he grows older. You can also use this on every family member.
There's a labeled separate button for the forehead and ear function.
Forehead function: Press and hold the head button. Then move the thermometer across your baby's forehead from temple to temple. You can do this by gently touching it on multiple spots on the forehead or sliding it across. Release the button and read the temperature.
Ear function: Pull the ear slightly backward. Aim it inside your child's ear and press the ear button. Release the button and read the temperature.
There are only a few studies made that shows the accuracy of a temporal over rectal thermometers. For newborns and babies younger than 6 months, rectal readings are still considered the most accurate.
When using it as a forehead thermometer, you have to acclimatize it to room temperature. You need to do this for 30 minutes before you use it so it will produce an accurate result. If you don't want to do this every time, you can store this at room temperature or use the ear function.
