Poki (for Pocket) vs Instapaper

Similar to the official Pocket app, Poki comes with many features that are available in the official Pocket app such as offline viewing, text-to-speech, search by title, URL or tags, find articles by tag and customizable reading view. This makes for no reason to use Pocket over Poki as Poki has all of Pockets features, plus a bunch of their own.

Unlike the Pocket main app, the design of the Poki app is specially crafted based on the Modern UI in addition to the great enhancements of the additional design and functionality, which makes this one of the most beautiful Windows app to date.

Poki is capable of storing articles offline so that the user can view the article anytime even if they don't have an internet connection. Users can also set a maximum number of articles to be downloaded to the device which is useful for devices with a limited storage capacity. This way users are not limited to how much online storage Poki allots the user.

Text-to-speech is a features that allows the app to automatically generate speech from an articles text in order to assist people who wish to listen to the article rather to read an article. This is convenient for when the user is doing other work or just can't look at the screen.

There are 4 themes for the main app and 5 themes for reading view. The default will be the dark theme. These themes allow the user to customize their experience.

Achievements is a features only available in Poki (and not the first party Pocket app) that gives users a way to unlock special achievements whenever they read an article or are active in any activities in usage of the Poki app. This allows the user to be drawn into the app and creates a reason to keep coming back, by making a game out of reading.

Allows leaving notes attached to articles and highlighting certain part of the text. Free version of the app is limited to 5 highlights a month.

Instapaper allows you to choose from 14 different fonts, some of which have been designed specifically for the application. You can manually adjust spacing between lines, padding around text and font size to fit your preferences.

Instapaper comes with a build in text-to-speech feature that will read out loud articles. Premium version of the app allows creating playlists.

You can add articles to Instapaper by sending them to a unique email address associated with your account.

Allows for pagination, not just scrolling.

Instapaper includes a dark theme and allows switching to it after a set period in time or gradually over the course of the day.

In addition to allowing you to sort articles by when you saved them, you can also order articles by length or read progress and popularity.

In Pocket, this is a paid function - but Instapaper provides this for free! If a webpage is deleted, it remains in your Instapaper and they even archive pictures of the articles.

Instapaper will play videos from YouTube, Vimeo and other sources that are embedded in articles, but you have to be online for playback to work.

Instapaper includes Dyslexie a font that helps people with reading problems understand the text better.

If you set your Instapaper profile to be public, your friends will be able to see articles you've liked.
