When comparing Pokemon X & Y vs Massive Chalice, the Slant community recommends Pokemon X & Y for most people. In the question“What are the best games with breeding mechanics?” Pokemon X & Y is ranked 3rd while Massive Chalice is ranked 5th. The most important reason people chose Pokemon X & Y is:
While not always a focus in the game for casual players the breeding aspect allows for one to breed Pokemon with certain stats. This is done through random number generation but makes for a way for hardcore players to breed the ultimate Pokemon by using two compatible Pokemon with particular stats to breed a new Pokemon who inherits those stats. This is basically a meta game that allows those that compete competitively to make the perfect team.

Pro Easy to get started
Previous games in the series featured slow starts to the game that would take the player hours in order to get to the meat of the title. Changed in X & Y the player can now have access to the majority of gameplay elements withing the first hour, which is considerably faster that prior games.
Pro Breeding is part of succeeding
In order to do well at this XCOM-esque turn based strategy game, you must breed well.
Characters you control in-game will later become the very lifeblood of future characters. These pairings will determine which types of characters you receive later and depending on their strengths/weaknesses can either win or lose you the game.
Cons
Con Story feels the same as always
Not much has been done to upgrade or change the story found in the game and is basically a rehash of previous titles where a young boy is tasked with cataloging all the Pokemon in the world while also taking to task bad guys bent on ruling the world.
