While not always a focus in the game for casual players the breeding aspect allows for one to breed Pokemon with certain stats. This is basically a meta game that allows those that compete competitively to make the perfect team.

Pros
Pro Interesting customization through a breeding mechanic
Players can pair up their classmates in order to allow them to breed children who can then be used further for battling and breeding. Visual appearances of the children will be inherited from their parents and so in choosing who one breeds will allow for customizing the look of ones team.
Pro Deep breeding mechanics
While not always a focus in the game for casual players the breeding aspect allows for one to breed Pokemon with certain stats. This is done through random number generation but makes for a way for hardcore players to breed the ultimate Pokemon by using two compatible Pokemon with particular stats to breed a new Pokemon who inherits those stats.

Pro Easy to get started
Previous games in the series featured slow starts to the game that would take the player hours in order to get to the meat of the title. Changed in X & Y the player can now have access to the majority of gameplay elements withing the first hour, which is considerably faster that prior games.
Cons
Con Bland environments
Each level is randomly generated but tends to look pretty much the same no matter how much you progress. This can get tiring especially when reaching dead ends as there is no real defining characteristic in each room.
Con Story feels the same as always
Not much has been done to upgrade or change the story found in the game and is basically a rehash of previous titles where a young boy is tasked with cataloging all the Pokemon in the world while also taking to task bad guys bent on ruling the world.
