Pros
Pro Excellent for gaming
Its fast pixel response time, low input lag, highly responsive 144 Hz panel, and decent picture quality make this an excellent gaming monitor.
Pro Has speakers
The AOC G2460PF features a set of 2 W speakers which might come in handy from time to time.
Pro Flicker-free
This monitor doesn't flicker because it uses a DC signal to dim its backlight. Monitor flickering is proven to be one of the leading causes of eye fatigue.
Pro Has a built-in USB hub
Having four downstream USB ports, this monitor makes an excellent USB hub which can be used for charging peripherals or connecting them to a computer via a dedicated USB upstream port.
Pro Decent ergonomics
The AOC G2460PF, will suit the needs of every gaming station since it supports an impressive range of ergonomic adjustments, including height, tilt angle, and swivel. Additionally, because of its 0-90 degree pivot support, it can be used in either portrait or a landscape mode.
Pro Handles motion well
The monitor can display smooth and blur-free motion because of its full pixel response time of 1 ms, which makes it one of the fastest monitors in its price range.
The full pixel response time shows how fast each pixel of a monitor can change its color. Currently, the de facto standard in the gaming monitor market is 1 ms.
However, keep in mind that the 1 ms pixel response time is achieved by the use of overdrive feature which has one adverse side effect. When abused, pixel overdrive makes the pixels noticeably overshoot their target values and introduce some unwanted artifacts.
Pro Good value for money
Priced just a tiny bit above $200, the AOC G2460PF offers an exceptional set of gaming-specific features that can't be found in any other monitor in this price range.
Pro All cables already included
The G2460PF supports VGA, DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort and all of the corresponding cables are already included with it. That way, you don't need to buy any extra ones.
Pro Has high refresh rate
The monitor offers one of the highest native refresh rates in its price range - 144 Hz, which in video games gives you the advantage of receiving faster image updates than your opponents who play on slower panels.
A monitor’s refresh rate corresponds to the number of frames it can show each second. The higher the refresh rate - the more frequent image updates you can receive. For example, compared to a 60 Hz panel, the 144 Hz one will display a frame 10 ms faster solely due to the difference in refresh rates.
Pro Can fight glare
This monitor works very well in bright rooms with lots of windows because its panel is bright enough to fight glare.
Pro Responsive
This monitor has an amazingly low input lag of only 3.6 ms which makes gameplay feel responsive and lag-free. Only a handful of monitors in this price range perform at the sub 4 ms range.
Input lag is an essential parameter of a gaming monitor - it represents how much time a monitor needs to process a frame generated by your computer.
Pro Supports FreeSync
FreeSync allows a monitor to synchronize its refresh rate to the framerate of Radeon graphics cards, which eliminates vertical tearing and stutter. The AOC G2460PF supports FreeSync in the 35-144 Hz range.
Pro Decent picture quality
The AOC G2460PF offers excellent overall picture quality for a gaming monitor in its price range. Its contrast ratio, brightness, color volume, and gamma are superior to what the vast majority of competitors in this price range offer.
The monitor can display bright images with vivid and consistent colors across its whole panel. Colors pop thanks to the 350 nit brightness of the panel. Mid-tones are accurate and consistent thanks to the average gamma value of 2.09. Color accuracy issues are virtually unnoticeable to the human eye with the average color gamut error of 2.39.
Additionally, dark scenes look quite good thanks to the native contrast ratio of 1000:1.
Pro Easily adjustable stand
You can easily adjust the height of the monitor, and you can also rotate it and switch between landscape and portrait mode.
Pro Works well in brightly lit environments
The MG24UQ features an anti-glare panel, which significantly reduces or eliminates reflections, loss of clarity due to light, fingerprints and smudges.
Pro Detailed OSD menu's for easy navigation
ASUS has handled the on-screen display (OSD) of the MG24UQ very well in a clear and easy to navigate interface. You can choose from a different number of presets on the fly, and all attributes such as brightness, contrast and refresh rate are adjustable. The blue light filter can also be adjusted in intensity. You can also create your own presets for easy switching between settings.
Pro Excellent viewing angles
The viewing angles of the MG24UQ are excellent; no color shifting (distortion of colors) occurs when looking at the display from a horizontal or vertical angle.
Pro Well built and designed
The design of the MG24UQ is quite sturdy and the base of the monitor contains seven large rubber pads to prevent accidental sliding of the display. The panel itself slides into the base via a metal insert, but VESA wall-mounting options are available as well. In terms of design, the base provides an easy way to route cables out of sight and all connections are clearly labeled.
Pro Great color reproduction, reaches 100% of the sRGB spectrum
Thanks to the IPS panel ASUS has used in its MG24UQ, color reproduction is excellent. This monitor can display the full 100% sRGB color range -good for graphical editing. Without calibration, the MG24UQ is able to reach 78% of the AdobeRGB coverage. For comparison: an average monitor reaches about 76% of the AdobeRGB color spectrum. After calibration however, over 79% of the spectrum can be achieved and the average color accuracy delta E can also be reduced significantly from a little over 2 to 1.06 which results in an even better color reproduction. Anything less than 1 deltaE is imperceptible to the human eye. As a result, color accuracy is near perfect in practice.
sRGB is the color spectrum that is most commonly used on cameras and prints, and is also used for most images on the web. AdobeRGB however offers a wider color spectrum and as a result, more vibrant and lifelike colors.
Pro Extremely sharp
The MG24UQ uses a 4K-display with a resolution of 2160 x 3840 pixels, which is four times the amount of pixels of a Full HD display. This results in an extremely sharp image. The fact that the MG24UQ is relatively small further increases pixel density and thus sharpness. In terms of pixels per inch (ppi), the MG24UQ measures at 183 ppi. For comparison: a Full HD monitor of the same size would only reach half of that - 91 pixels per inch.
Cons
Con Slight backlight bleeding may occur in a dark room
When viewing the screen in a fairly dark room, some backlight bleeding might be visible towards the bottom of the display.
Backlight bleeding occurs when the panel can't block 100% of the light produced by the backlight, resulting in spots of lighter areas.
Con The red line is annoying
There is a red painted stripe on the bottom of the screen which according to some user reviews is very irritating.
Con 4K resolution doesn't scale well with all software
Due to the native 4K resolution and the relatively small 28 inch screen size, text can be hard to read in Windows and other non-gaming environments, such as Adobe's software. Not everything scales well in 4K (yet).
Con Low maximum refresh rate of 60 Hz limits fast-paced action
Compared to some other gaming monitors, this ASUS display isn't as fast. The maximum refresh rate is limited at 60 Hz, which is the industry standard for all monitors. Some fast-paced games greatly benefit from a higher refresh rate such as 120 or 144 Hz as it increases fluidity.
Con Slower response time adds extra lag
The MG24UQ uses a panel with a response time of 4 ms, which is excellent for normal usage but less satisfactory for gaming. Some competitors offer a much quicker response time of 1 ms and are thus more ideal for fast paced action.
